East African Photography Show – Opening Nov. 1

“Home,” a photography exhibit featuring works by photographers Nate Grubbs and Will Campbell, who have traveled extensively in East Africa with Lahash International, is set to open Thursday, November 1, at Imago Art Space in NW Portland.

While documenting the stories of East Africa’s most vulnerable children, Nate Grubbs and Will Campbell were invited into their kitchens and living rooms. Against the backdrop of bare floors and cracked walls, these two Portland photographers explored the places where the abundant joy of children freely mingles with the harsh limits of poverty. Visit the Facebook Event Page to find out even more details!

All pieces for the show were produced by Plywerk, an eco-conscious photo mounting and art panel company based in Portland. Each piece is mounted on 1/2″ panels of sustainably grown and harvested maple, and made and assembled here in Portland. Plywerk just finished all the images last week and sent us a sneak peak of one of the final pieces.

Rich with color and texture, these photographs invite us to into the basic elements of home as they echo the lives lived in these spaces. Come and experience intimate images of daily living, and the beauty that emerges from simplicity and struggle.

The artists have generously donated all proceeds from the show to Lahash International to build new homes for orphaned children in Northern Uganda. To find out more about the how these funds will be used and the kids that will benefit, visit the Building Hope page on this website.
