Servant Teams – accepting final applications through June 30!

It is awesome to see the 2016 Servant Team taking shape! There is one more week to submit applications for this life-changing “gap year” experience that combines in-depth training in holistic mission with humble service among the most vulnerable. The first four months are spent in Portland, training in missional theology and community development. For the next six months, the team travels to East Africa to serve in hands-on ministry among the poor. We would love to add a few more people to join these confirmed team members:

Mandee Campos is the new Servant Teams Coordinator as well as a 2016 team member. She recently completed her Masters degree at Multnomah University, and is currently traveling with the Lahash  group in East Africa.

Yevette Garcia is from Laurence, Massachusetts, and holds a Masters degree in Community Engagement. She’s ready to apply this knowledge in local and international settings.

Taylor Massie has sensed God calling her to missions and sees Servant Teams as a first step toward that call. She is from Ohio, and currently works for a service agency providing housing and treatment for teens.

Phase One of their team experience will kick off in Portland with an overnight retreat on September 2nd.  Then Servant Teams Director Clark Blakeman has an inspiring list of theologians and practitioners in mission set to provide four months of in-depth training. The team will also serve hands-on with the Rockwood Community Development Corporation in a low-income Portland neighborhood.

Phase Two begins in January 2017, when the team heads to Tanzania to work with Lahash’s partners there. They will have the opportunity to re-contextualize all that they learned in Phase One, and discover for themselves just how transferable God’s mission in the world really is.

This video will give you a taste of what Servant Teams was like for the 2015 team. You can find more information at ServantTeams.com and on the Servant Teams Facebook Page. This journey is perfect for anyone who wants to dive deep into God’s heart for the vulnerable, and learn to live out their unique part in the gospel story. The application is here – we would love to hear from you!
