Love God. Serve Together.

As the Servant Teams leadership staff, we are excited to share our vision for the upcoming year of ministry! We’ve been retooling and making some cool changes to the program and we can’t wait for God to bring together our next team this fall. As we’ve thought through the core values of our program, we settled on four important words that wonderfully describe our heartbeat at Servant Teams. Those four words are:

Love God. Serve Together.

Today we are pulling the curtain back a bit on what these words mean to us and how they will be lived out in the years to come.

Love God: Our God is a triune and loving relational God. In our program, we will learn about what it means to reflect the image of God. In Mark 12: 30-31, Jesus tells us the two greatest commandments, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” Through relational and hands-on learning, we will explore developing both our hearts and our minds in the Servant Teams program. We also will prepare diverse young people to abundantly love their creator and the communities he has placed them in, whether that is a community in the United States or a nation across the globe. Our program will cover a multitude of different topics and offer many exciting learning experiences. However, at the end of the day, we want our participants to grow deeper in love with God and to be able to know and experience God’s love as well.

Serve Together: We will observe and live out the ways scripture calls us to love and serve one another. Through discipleship and through engaging with our communities and those who have been marginalized, we will explore how we can live out those two greatest commandments listed above. 1 Peter 4:10 states that “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” We want to develop the unique gifts in each participant. At the same time, however, we all have something to offer. The need for mutuality in relationships is a principle we hope to carry out and we recognize that through each other we can more fully live out our call. Ephesians 4:16 states “from him the whole body, joined together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.” The Servant Teams journey is not a journey taken alone. Rather, our journey is one that is inclusive, diverse, and communal. Such a community, we believe, better reflects that image of being one body with Christ as our head. We will learn together, grow together, and we will serve together.

If God is calling you to this community, we would love to serve and grow alongside you!
