Preparing for the Lahash Conference – “With Gratitude”

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. – Colossians 3:17

In July, ministry teams from across East Africa will gather with Lahash staff and volunteers for the sixth biannual Lahash Conference. It will be hosted just outside of Nairobi, Kenya and will run for just under a week.

Lahash Director Dan Holcomb is excited about the reunion and conference in July and what God will do during the week in Kenya.

“These Lahash conferences infuse life and fresh spiritual and physical energy into our network of ministry partnerships! Our East African partners are true heroes – local leaders with vision, creativity, faith, and tireless dedication. It is our privilege to pour into our partners, to learn from them, and to all be blessed together by God’s presence and Word during the conference.”

Church and ministry leaders will be coming from five nations and ten ministry locations.

The theme this year is “With Gratitude.” Pastor Tom Smith from Silverton, Oregon, is a board member at Lahash and will be speaking on the theme of gratitude each morning. “My goal is to develop our spiritual reflexes so that every outpouring of His grace is met with an outpouring of our gratitude. We’ll be studying the truth that even the things that we struggle to accept from His hand can be trustfully and thankfully received.”

The largest ever Lahash traveling team will be arriving just before the conference begins. Fifteen team members will be joining the the gathering in Kenya.

The Lahash Media Director, Casey Schilperoort, is looking forward to the conference. “I’m most excited to reconnect with our partners, and meet a few for the first time! They are so passionate about the work God has called them to do, and it always inspires me.” Servant Teams Director, Mandee Campos, echos this excitement, “I can’t wait to be a student and take notes from our East African partners, they have so much insight and wisdom coming from their day-to-day work in their ministries.”

Krista Ranno is the new Lahash Sponsorship Director and is preparing to transition fully into her role at the conference. “I am really looking forward to not just meeting my coworkers but being with them—learning about who they are, how God is working in their lives, and then meeting many of the kids they care for as we visit a few partnership sites!” After the conference, Krista and the other team members will spend time at several of the partnerships connecting with the kids and staff.

The Johnson family will be comprising a large part of the travel team. Jen and Keith Johnson will be traveling together with their four children. Jen is looking forward to seeing the two worlds come together. “Our kids have grown up with a sense of connection to the people Lahash serves in East Africa, so it is super exciting that we will experience that connection in person together. Everything about our family’s ministry at Lahash will come alive in a new way, and we are eager to see how that shapes us!”

The network of Lahash partnerships will gather from July 19 through 25. Stayed tuned as more details are released during the next couple of months! The team greatly appreciates prayers during the preparation and planning.
