Welcome To The Team: Jessica Ebersole!

We are very excited about a new staff member joining our team this spring. Jessica Ebersole is moving from Chicago to join Lahash and work at our Portland headquarters!

“We are thrilled to have Jessica join the Lahash community,” Director Dan Holcomb said. “God’s put in Jessica a heart that is passionate to love and minister to those around her – particularly those who find themselves on the margins of society. It is clear that God has been preparing her for a life of unique ministry.”

Jessica grew up in the Chicago area and graduated college with a degree in Communications and a ministry emphasis. “I told God when I graduated that I just want to serve and help people,” she shared. God has also uniquely prepared her for ministry to vulnerable people through the mild cerebral palsy she was born with. “That has really shaped a part of who I am,” Jessica added, “I am now able to serve people and come alongside them and understand where they’re coming from.”

After graduating from university she interned with Joni and Friends (a global ministry serving people with disabilities). While volunteering for their social media team, she noticed the ministry had a new Twitter follower, Dan Holcomb of Lahash. “When people ask me how I got connected to Lahash, I say ‘Jesus and Twitter!’” Jessica laughs. She noticed an open position at Lahash and applied. “God began opening the doors and I visited Portland in December and then I came back and talked with family and friends and prayed about it. I felt that this was where God was leading me.”

“I love that Lahash is an organization that meets true needs. Lahash comes alongside these kids and really provide them with holistic care. It is not just food, family needs, school fees, and clothes for school – Lahash looks for a way to provide all of that — but most important is their commitment to sharing the gospel. I just love that!”

This past year contained an additional challenge as Jessica was diagnosed and received treatment for thyroid cancer. She had to rely on God and his provision and peace during a very painful and trying time. But through the struggles, Jessica has seen that God is able to heal and to provide in miraculous ways. “I went through cancer this past fall and I told God ‘you know you have gotten me through cancer and healed me from cancer so I know that you can provide me with a job.’”

Lahash staff members raise personal support for their salaries in order to maximize the impact of all other donations for the kids in East Africa. Jessica’s been amazed at how God has already been bringing a team together to support her in her new role. “I have just been so humbled to see who God has brought onto my support team. I’m so excited to go on this journey with my team and with God. God has stretched my faith so much through the cancer and I can’t wait to see what else he has in store for me when I get to Portland.”

We are excited to see what God has in store as well! Jessica will be an administrative assistant and plans to visit East Africa this summer. She will also be assisting the Lahash Media Team with writing and various social media channels.
