Holistic Care Model
SO, WHAT DOES LAHASH HOPE TO OFFER EACH CHILD?
Food on the table? Check.
School fees? Check.
But that just barely scratches the surface.
We’re created to live lives of real fullness and depth, and that’s how we view the kids we work with. Lahash follows a Holistic Care Model that goes beyond the basics to encourage maturity in all aspects of life. It’s a pattern we strive to mirror as an organization as well.
Spritual Care: The love and truth of Jesus Christ lead to a new internal life. It’s where hope begins. Out of that life flow expressions of grace, forgiveness, compassion, and healing.
The only way to achieve true change in this world is through the Lord God, and every effort we make should point to Him. We encourage our partners to be involved with their local church community, and we have Biblical counseling available for staff members. Lahash staff and volunteers meet weekly to share communion, recite liturgy, and pray for our friends in East Africa.
Emotional Care: People – especially children – succeed most when they feel cared for and valued. We equip our staff to be aware of our clients’ states of mind, their struggles, and their emotional needs, and to offer counseling when appropriate. We ask our partners to maintain a low children-to-staff ratio to ensure each child receives individual attention. We encourage opportunities for artistic expression through drawing, painting, writing, music, and dancing to share with the community.
Physical Care: While treatment of disease is crucial, we also stress methods of disease prevention. Proper nutrition, hygiene, sexual behavior, and care for existing conditions such as HIV/AIDS are taught and have lasting effects. Children are encouraged to exercise by playing their favorite games outside, and education and job training are provided.
Environmental Care: “The earth is the Lord’s, and all the fullness thereof!” We’ve all been given the responsibility to care for God’s world. We join our partners in being good stewards (not just of land, but of time and money), mindfully protecting, cleaning, caring for, and restoring the communities we live in. Whether it’s through cultivating a garden or riding a bike, we work hard to nurture this earth while limiting our dependence on its resources.
