Savior’s Home

A YOUNG MUSICIAN WITH A BIG HEART

In the streets of Kampala, Uganda, children who have been made refugees by war or orphaned by disease struggle to survive on their own. A young musician named Timothy Bata was moved to organize several compassionate neighborhood women to provide care for a few of his community’s neediest kids, and a ministry was born.

Now 15 children live at Savior’s Home, where they receive nutrition, spiritual care, and an education. The halls of Savior’s home are alive with music, as kids once hidden in the darkest corners of the city now dream of traveling the world with their songs and dancing.

As director Dan Holcomb puts it, “Many of these kids would face dismal futures if it weren’t for the home. Many vulnerable kids in the area have turned to crime, life on the streets, and prostitution in order to survive. We would love for these kids to grow up to be essential members of their local community and have lives wrapped up in the service of God and neighbors.

Tim’s work has already made a huge difference. On my visit to the home last fall I met kids and heard their stories. I heard about former lives of sin and hopelessness on the streets. The kids are now attending school, eating well, worshipping God, and have hope in their eyes. It’s quite dramatic.”
