07 Aug Announcing the 2012 – 2013 Lahash Servant Team
Our team at Lahash is excited to announce a new strategic partnership between Second Stories and Lahash International. Second Stories is a Christian Community Development organization based in Portland, Oregon. Second Stories Director Clark Blakeman will be leading a team living and serving in Adjumani, Uganda. He’ll be joined by his wife Cathy, daughter Sarah, and friends and Second Stories volunteers Rick and Haley Baker.
The team will be serving the kids of Amazing Grace Children’s Home – assisting with care of the kids, construction of new family-style homes for the children, and providing training to the staff and kids. They will also be serving the wider Ugandan and South Sudanese communities by offering skills and training in Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) and Aquaponics and Permaculture.
Clark Blakeman formerly served on the board of Lahash International, and recently traveled to provide training to several churches and children’s ministries in Tanzania in March of this year. His seminar on ABCD was the best-received and reviewed session at the Lahash East Africa Conference – with representatives from each East African partnership requesting that he return and share more of the training with the communities across the region.
The intended departure date for the team is the last week of September. The period of service will last approximately one year – after which the team will bring back experience and new insights from community development in Adjumani in order to assist and inform the work happening in Portland, Oregon.
