29 Nov The Nile Youth Bible Camp is Just Around the Corner!
When thinking about Uganda and the Nile River, very few of us conjure up the words “zip lines, ropes courses, boat rides, and Youth Camp.” Yet that’s exactly what will be happening over the weekend of December 7-9, as Lahash hosts a “Nile Youth Bible Camp” on the shores of the Nile for the refugee children at Amazing Grace Children’s Home in Northern Uganda.
The brainchild of Anthony Scott, Director of Camp Eagle in Rocksprings, Texas, and Dan Holcomb, Director of Lahash International, the idea of bringing a weekend of adventure and spiritual nourishment to the children of Amazing Grace has been a exhilarating project to put together. “Anthony is a creative visionary with a compassionate heart for the work being done for the orphans of Southern Sudan,” says Dan. “He’s taken his knowledge, passion, and creativity that has gone into crafting many years of incredible camps full of adventure and spiritual development here in the United States, and created a really special weekend retreat for these South Sudanese refugee kids.”
The weekend will be chock full of activities — a zip line, boat rides on the Nile, swimming in the swimming pool (a first for most of the children!), football, ropes and swings, wildlife sightseeing, amazing food, and enriching spiritual and Biblical discussions. It will be centered around the theme of encouraging and affirming these children (who have been orphaned and displaced out of Southern Sudan to the Amazing Grace Children’s Home in Northern Uganda) to realize their God-given value and unique potential. Approximately 40 children, ages 6-20, will attend the camp. The leadership team is made up of Lahash travelers, Amazing Grace staff, and Lahash workers from other areas of East Africa. The group will stay at the Arra Fishing Lodge, a beautiful expanse of land situated on the shores of the Nile River in Northern Uganda.
The days will be structured with recreational activities, as well as worship and singing, Bible studies, instruction in areas such as servant hood and spiritual growth and maturity, group meals, and personal development and learning. A packed week, or as Dan mentions, “It will be a weekend these children remember for the rest of their lives!”
It is set to be an amazing weekend for everyone involved– three days of exciting activities, meaningful studies, and Godly fellowship that will nourish the hearts, minds, and bodies of the wonderful children at Amazing Grace, as well as the leaders who have worked so hard to put this camp together!
