Your Light Will Rise – Lahash Banquet held in Portland

This past Saturday 250 friends of Lahash came from the Portland area (and even from other states and nations) to join in an event to celebrate the work of the past year and raise funds for the year of ministry ahead.

The highlight of the event was welcoming Lahash partner Esther Muhagachi to town and enjoying hearing her story of how the ministry began and has grown over the years.

You can watch Esther’s speech in the video below.

The theme for the evening was “Your Light Will Rise”. This is a phrase taken from Isaiah 58:6-12. This passage was a promise from God for the Jewish people. He told his chosen people that true religious activity is not in rituals – but rather in pursuing justice, caring for neighbors, providing food for the hungry, setting captives free, and providing shelter for the homeless. When God’s people act in these ways – God causes his light to rise in the lives of his people. God’s Shalom then begins to cover the land and God takes care of his people and blesses them.

The evening also featured the release of a brand new video by Casey Schilperoort and Tim Nelson on our Media Team. You can enjoy the story by watching the video below.

We were specifically asking guests to consider sponsoring a child through our sponsorship program. We are excited to announce that during the evening 33 children were sponsored! Thank God for the generosity and commitment of these new sponsors!

Guests also shared $10,000 in financial gifts and we had 9 guests express interest in volunteering or joining our staff!

We are full of thanks for the impact of the evening and are eager now to launch into the new year of ministry together!

* All costs for the evening were covered by our generous friends and corporate sponsors – enabling all of the funds given during the evening to be used for the work of Lahash in the year ahead.
