08 Jan 2021 MONTH OF PRAYER: Week 1
During January, we’re inviting you to join the global Lahash community as we begin this new year of ministry with prayer! Each week this month, we will focus our prayers on a specific region where Lahash works, as well as a current issue that the kids in East Africa are facing. Thank you for joining us in setting this foundation of prayer for 2021.
In Kenya, Lahash partners with Nipe Tumaini Children’s Home. “Nipe Tumaini” means “give me hope,” and that is exactly what they are providing for children who were abandoned or orphaned through tragic circumstances. Nipe Tumaini is unique among the Lahash partnerships in providing full time residential care. The children at Nipe Tumaini are growing up in a loving home with a thriving farm and a school on site. Pray for the children to heal from the effects of the trauma they have faced and for the staff to abound with compassion, commitment, and wisdom as they care for the children.
Kenya is also the home base of our phenomenal Lahash East Africa staff. Edwin Angote is the Lahash East Africa Director, and his wife Christine supports the ministry as well. Saggiah and Enrica Wright serve as the Partnership Development Coordinator and Child Welfare Manager respectively. These staff members maintain close communication with each partnership, as well as working closely with the U.S. based staff. Pray for them to have insight and wisdom in navigating cross-cultural communication, and for them to be so filled by God’s love and peace that it strengthens them for every burden and challenge they encounter.
The nation of Kenya is in the process of reviewing its constitution. Pray that the changes benefit all Kenyans, and the minds and hearts of their leaders may be in line with God’s will. Kenya is also seeing higher infection rates of Covid-19 than other countries in East Africa. Pray for healing, that the situation may be contained, and the Covid-19 vaccine reaches East Africa soon.
Request: School Challenges
Across East Africa, January is the beginning of a new school year for students from primary school through university. For vulnerable children who already struggle to achieve consistent academic progress, the educational interruptions caused in 2020 by the Covid pandemic have dramatically multiplied those struggles.
- Please pray for Lahash kids in Kenya and Rwanda, where school systems are just starting to reopen. Some students will be repeating their previous grade level or covering missed curriculum in a condensed format.
- Please pray for Lahash kids in Tanzania, who completed a condensed version of their interrupted school year last year, with varying degrees of hardship and success.
- Pray for all the children to stay strong and healthy as they return to school, and for them to have sharp minds and hopeful hearts as they continue their educational journey.
Reflection: Psalm 5: 1-3, 11-12
Give ear to my words, O Lord; give heed to my sighing. Listen to the sound of my cry, my King and my God, for to you I pray. O Lord, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I plead my case to you, and watch.
But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, so that those who love your name may exult in you. For you bless the righteous, O Lord; you cover them with favor as with a shield.
We would love to have more people praying for Lahash and the kids we serve! If you’d like to receive periodic prayer emails throughout 2021 and join us in praying over specific requests, please join the email list here.
