5 LETTER WRITING PROMPTS TO BUILD CONNECTION
Talia and her family have sponsored children in East Africa for many years. Letter writing is a beautiful way to share love and relationship across the miles.
Handwritten cards and letters are wonderful to give, because they carry with them the gift of time. Time is often underestimated, but in reality, giving someone your time is one of the most meaningful gifts that can be given.
Writing a physical letter is something that rarely occurs in our digital age of emails and text messages, but often handwritten letters are treasured and can be very personal and thoughtful gifts.
One of my favorite ways to exchange letters has been through the Lahash sponsorship program. Ever since I was very young, I have experienced the joy of receiving letters from the children my family sponsors. Although these friends are on the other side of the world, I feel we are connected, and that I am getting a glimpse into what their lives are like and they are seeing into mine.
Hearing descriptions of their day to day life and being entrusted with their prayer requests is such a privilege. Even though we live in very different places, I feel like they are bringing me into their lives in a way, to be not just a spectator, but someone who walks alongside them as we both grow and change.
One of my most treasured memories is meeting our sponsored kid, Yusta, on a recent trip to Africa. She lives in Dodoma, Tanzania, and my family has sponsored her for five years. The whole time we were talking to her she had a huge smile on her face, and the joy which she radiated was contagious.
It was truly a gift from God to be able to finally see her in person after so many years of sponsoring her and exchanging letters. Because of the letters we sent through the program, I felt, in a way, that I already knew her, and that this was simply a reunion with a dear friend.
If you are considering sponsoring a child, it is so worth it. To be a part of the Lahash sponsorship program has been one of the greatest gifts that I have received in my life and it has been a huge privilege to be able to send and receive letters from our sponsored kids.
God connects people through words, and when those words are written down, they are not only an encouragement, but also a memorable gift, a labor of love, a sacrifice of time, and a sign that you truly care. And the best part is, your letters can change a life!
