HEROES WITHIN GOD'S GLOBAL FAMILY
Jessica Ebersole is on staff with Lahash. She recently traveled to Kenya for our 9th East African conference. She was deeply impacted by the theme of God’s global family. Below are some of her poems that she wrote during the conference.
God’s Global Family
A taste of heaven
worshipping and rejoicing
our great God
in different languages and ways
What we are experiencing this week
is how the church is meant to be
looking past the differences we each carry
and recognizing that each person
is an image bearer of Christ
and that we are all one
in Jesus
Putting aside division
for the sake of the gospel
is such a beautiful thing
and something that is such a gift
in this day and age
Let’s continue to be
the light of Christ
to those around us this week
and to see others with the same
love, compassion, and care
that Jesus lovingly gazes at his creation
you and me
every day
Heroes
The men and women sitting in this room with me
They are heroes to me
not because their names have made headlines
not because of their success
not because they have climbed the social ladder
They are heroes because of their faith
how they have each held onto Jesus
in the traumatic seasons
when there wasn’t a way forward
and the path seemed uncertain
They have touched the hem of his robes
and kept going
putting one foot in front of the other
They are heroes because of their work
lovingly caring for each child
that God has placed in their path
making sure each child
is seen, loved, and cared for
with compassionate Jesus-centered love
They are heroes because of their testimony
each has a story that God has written
and continues to write
Each is unique in what God has brought them
through, and they can stand here
and say that God is good
And he is with us
no matter what we are facing
I am so grateful to know each of these brothers and sisters in Christ
and to learn, grow, and be encouraged by them
May God continue to be with each of them
as they endeavor to do the work that Jesus
has set before each of them
