LAHASH BIBLE CAMPS: DRAWING KIDS CLOSER TO JESUS
Beyond the beautiful songs around the campfires and the laughter and joy of the evenings, something deeper and more meaningful was taking place at camp.
In the past two weeks, 342 children from Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda attended Lahash-supported Bible camps! Students stepped away from school, homes, and their everyday routines and entered a different kind of classroom - one filled with adventure, focused on deepening friendships, filled with God's word, and opportunities to discover who they are in Christ. Our partners shared that 118 kids decided to follow Christ, and 162 kids recommitted their lives to Christ!
"Jesus said, 'Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.'" - Matthew 19:14
Children's discipleship is at the center of our mission as an organization, and seeing these beautiful kids we serve turn their lives to the Lord is something that we are so grateful for. We're so encouraged about the good work that our partner ministries have been doing in heeding the call that Christ made many years ago - welcoming children to be part of God's kingdom.
Fun And Adventure
At our ministry partner Nipe Tumaini's camp, which was held in Tinderet, Nandi Hills, Kenya, 47 children spent five days exploring the theme "We are God's Masterpieces," which was based on the book of Ephesians. An array of activities was undertaken - Bible study, games, reflection sessions, emotional care sessions combined with nature walks, and opportunities to experience the beauty of nature. The campers explored the spectacular Nandi Hills, visited Rainbow Polytechnic, and had an opportunity to swim and play at a waterfall.
For Jane, the landscape became more than an adventure. Looking at the mountains and rivers, she began reflecting on the Creator and His love for humanity. She returned home with a fresh observation.
"As I looked at the beautiful mountains in Nandi Hills and the calm rivers, I felt deeply moved. The mountains were tall and majestic, while the river waters flowed with peace. These beautiful sights made me conclude that our Creator is wonderful. His creation manifests beauty, purpose, and care."
For children from Path of Hope in Shinyanga, Tanzania, it was such a great opportunity to step into Jambo Zoo, with most of the kids coming here for the very first time. Their eyes filled with wonder and awe as they watched animals they had only read about in storybooks or seen on screens. The highlight was at the giraffe platform, where the children stood eye-to-eye with towering, gentle giants and even had the opportunity to feed the giraffes.
This experience left a memory of wonder that will last a lifetime for these kids. Batrice remarked, "I am so grateful to have participated in this year's camp…may God bless you, Lahash."
One Gospel, Many Camp Experiences
Across the region, each partnership brought its own approach while keeping Christ at the center of their camp experience.
In Rwanda, 85 children attended a camp on "Obedience to Christ." Twenty-five gave their lives to Jesus, and 60 recommitted themselves.
In Uganda, Sheltering Arms welcomed 80 children for "Camping with Christ."
Worship, Bible games, teaching, and play formed the rhythm of the two-day gathering. Sixty children made decisions for Christ, while another 20 recommitted their lives.
At Hope and Healing in Dodoma, young people explored Christian identity under the theme "A Generation that Follows God," alongside topics such as purity, health, and globalization. The camp recorded 20 spiritual decisions, including 15 receiving Jesus and five recommitting their lives.
Ten Years of Planting and Watering
"We will tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders that he has done." - Psalm 78:4 NRS.
Over the past decade, Lahash Bible Camp participation has grown from 110 attendees in 2016 to 342 in 2026. For ten years, these camps have created spaces where children and young people can hear God's Word, experience Christian community, discover their gifts and consider what it means to follow Jesus.
Hundreds of lives have been touched. Commenting on the relevance of the camps, Kigosha, Program Coordinator from Hope and Healing Ministry, shared, "We've always seen God in action at the Lahash Bible Camps; children and even staff are always blessed."
