New Board Member: Maxwell Olwa

Lahash International is excited to announce the addition of Maxwell Olwa as our newest Board Member! Maxwell has 10+ years of experience in the non-profit sector and lives in the Portland area. Currently, he serves as the Education Program Manager at African Youth and Community Organization (AYCO). In his role at AYCO, Maxwell is responsible for development, implementation, and the evaluation of several educational programs including: STEAM, summer learning, youth leadership, and tutoring.

The Lahash Board of Directors at a recent meeting.

When asked what drew him to join Lahash, Maxwell shared:

I was drawn to Lahash because of the organization's gospel-centric approach to collaborating with ministry leaders in Africa to support vulnerable children. I believe in the power of believers coming together, empowering communities, and fostering spiritual growth. As an African in the diaspora, I'm excited to contribute my skills and experience to support this mission.”

Maxwell is originally from Kenya, East Africa. There he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Theology from Scott Theological College in Machakos. Later, he attended Multnomah University where he graduated with a Master of Arts in Global Development and Justice (MAGDJ).

My experience at MAGDJ equipped me with valuable skills in working with communities, particularly those who are vulnerable. I was equipped with knowledge not only of reaching the local communities but having a global focus as well. The leadership and project management skills that I have gained will be instrumental in supporting strategic planning, managing projects effectively, or advocating for the organization's mission”.

Maxwell leads devotions for the Lahash staff at a recent staff meeting.

Maxwell brings great wisdom, determination and expertise to our team. Not only due to his lived experience as an African, but also his experience in the educational realm, ministry work, social justice and community empowerment. He is eager to use his skills and experience to help Lahash continue to thrive and achieve our mission.

Executive Director Dan Holcomb shares: “Maxwell not only grew up in Kenya, but he’s also had years of experience in pastoral ministry, community development, and international cross-cultural Christian ministry. Maxwell is committed to Christ and has a big heart for serving and caring for vulnerable populations. It’s been a perfect fit for both the ministry and for Maxwell’s skills and passions. We are thrilled to see his vision and experience help steer the ministry forward in the coming years!”

When not at work, Maxwell likes spending time with his wife Jessica and their three children, Micah, Asher and Zahera. Maxwell and his oldest son Micah will be traveling with the Lahash staff to Kenya and Rwanda this summer!

Please join us in welcoming Maxwell and his family to the Lahash family! We are excited to see how God will use Maxwell's gifts and talents to impact the Lahash community.
